The Wise Water or Lingshui Village is located in Zhaitang town, Moutougou District, western part of Beijing Municipality. The historic buildings have been well preserved with some new additions, and while not a national heritage site remains an important example of Beijing's rural history. The village has many old and rare trees that add a richness to the village architecture, while providing canopies of shade.
There are springs and creeks that have serviced the 72 water wells of the past. Walking through Lingshui Village you can't help but feel its thousand years of culture. The architectural relics assure us that in the past there was both a village of architectural distinction that produced notable Chinese leaders that was also well known for producing successful candidates in the Imperial Examinations at the Provincial level in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Lingshui was also the home of some the earliest Buddhist Temples in the Beijing area and the most notable was the Lingquan Zen Temple which was located at the base of Lianhua mountain to the west of the village. In addition there are several notable Buddhist Temples in the area reflecting the historic spiritual tradition of the people.
The Village is worthy of the days trip, and in addition the countryside, agriculture rugged terrain and rural life are all deserving and informative. The village has a welcoming feeling.
After lunch in a local villager's home, you will do an easy hike along the gorge for 1.5 hours.
